Meet the Urban Aprons!

We are the Urban Aprons and welcome to our blog!

The Urban Aprons!

We are three friends who have embarked on a journey of food!  We share recipes, cook together, entertain, eat out and generally have a blast.  Though we are similar in many ways we also each bring something special to “the table,” so to speak;)

Our similarities:

We are three friends who are all originally from Minnesota, are Gustavus Adolphus College alumni, and love to cook, eat and share!

And how we differ:

We live in three different cities with completely different cultures and are exploring cuisine in totally different ways!

Molly: Making family food fabulous

Meet Molly (Minneapolis): I have lived in the Twin Cities my entire life and was raise by a stay-at-home mom / Gourmet Chef (or so I think) who believed in family dinners, fresh ingredients, and spice. At an early age, I knew my mom was on to something with this whole cooking thing, but now that I have a family of my own, I have added a modern day twist. I’m a full-time working mom, who loves her job, and somehow manages to pursue her passion for cooking. Whether I’m just waking up, at work, or on vacation, I’m always thinking about my next meal. I love discovering local hole-in the wall restaurants with my husband Adam and teaching (forcing) our 9 month old son to eat anything. I might be a quirky girl who is an overly-anal planner, but I sure do love food and my life!

Favorite Foods: Bacon, chicken wings, and jalapeños

Favorite Spice: Cayenne pepper

Berit: Exploring bold food in the Big Apple

Meet Berit (New York City): I am a small town Minnesota girl that recently made a big move with my husband Aaron and our shih tzu Eloise to New York City. At home in Minnesota my number one hobby was entertaining and creating in my spacious kitchen. We are all adjusting to the constant buzz of this great city as well as the much smaller living space. There isn’t a better place to be for someone that loves food as much as I do. After recently moving into the Chelsea neighborhood, my husband Aaron and I have been having  blast exploring the nooks and crannies of NYC.  As a food lover, there isn’t a better city I could be living in, there are so many unique markets, delis, and grocery stores for me to find inspiration from. Not to mention the 35,000+ restaurants with cuisines from all over the world!  So, please join me as I begin my “foodie” exploration of NYC.

Favorite Foods: Cheese, Sushi, and Mushrooms

Favorite Spice: At the moment, smoked paprika

Favorite Wine: Marietta Old Vine Red

Stephanie: Big Food in a tiny kitchen

Meet Stephanie (Washington, DC): I am a Wannebe Chef!  My interests are as random as my cooking and I learn from every kitchen endeavor. I love my day job as a strategy consultant, but when the suit comes off you can find me making big food in a tiny kitchen, exploring DC or venturing into the wilderness. I’m a Minnesota girl bursting with Midwest pride, though I love the fast pace and excitement of the East Coast. I live with my AMAZING and brilliant husband who shares my love for Minnesota, travel, our “cat-kids” Toby and Frenchie, and my kitchen adventures… well most of time. Glad you could join me on this journey of food!

Favorite Foods: Beef, Balsamic Vinegar and lefse

Favorite Spice: I love Curry right now but the spice I use most is probably cayenne pepper

Favorite wine: Bonny Doon Pacific Rim Dry Riesling and South American Malbecs

We’re glad you stopped by and would love to hear from you!  Feel free to comment on our posts, make recommendations or let us know if we can help.

Cheers, the Urban Aprons

I was lucky enough to be a guest during Berit’s last 5 course Italian Feast dinner party, and words cannot describe how good the Sweet Potato and Chevre Raviloi was! A unique and flavorful dish- like nothing I’ve EVER had before.

Best of luck to you girls and I will offer my taste-testing services whenever you need me ; )
